Always order extra bricks for cuts, replacements, and future repairs. 10% waste is standard for most projects. It's better to return extra bricks than to run out mid-project!
Brick estimates usually start with the project area or volume, then add a waste factor before converting the result into bags, pieces, bundles, panels, or gallons. Use this calculator when you need a fast material estimate before ordering supplies, comparing costs, or planning a construction project.
Contractors, builders, remodelers, and DIY homeowners who need a practical jobsite estimate.
Start with the dimensions of the project, then choose material settings, price, and waste percentage.
The basic workflow is to calculate wall area, determine brick size, calculate bricks per sf, then round up so you do not run short during installation.
Approximately 6.5 modular bricks per square foot for a single wythe (4 inch) wall with standard 3/8 inch mortar joints.
Standard bricks are about 2.25 bricks per square foot (including mortar). Calculate wall area and multiply by bricks per square foot.
Measure height × length of the wall. Subtract openings (doors, windows).
Note brick dimensions - standard modular brick is 7-5/8" × 2-1/4" × 3-5/8".
Standard: ~6.5 bricks per SF for single wythe, ~13 for double wythe.
Mortar: ~3-4 cubic feet per 1000 bricks (depends on joint size).
Add 5-10% extra for broken bricks and cuts.
